Calypso
The name Calypso draws inspiration from a few different sources. A major nod to singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte. His album Calypso is a perennial favorite in the studio. It is also pays homage in a small way to the enchanting sea nymph Calypso from The Iliad, whose name was thought to mean “like the hidden tide” or “beautiful sight.”
The duality of the collection name seems fitting as the collection is playful and powerful at the same time. These curvilinear pieces employ Jill’s signature hinged techniques, and create stunning shapes as they drape.
