Most days, Mur sits in an all white studio on the Lower East Side composing operas and musicals, painting, and writing alongside Chartle, bunny/artist assistant extraordinaire. The space is filled with works that are vibrant, warm, and wildly charming–perfect tokens of Mur.

Mur remembers moving to New York in 2009. Crafting colorful sculptures and art installations, clay beads with big faces on them. Within a year, they had followed college best friend (jewelry designer Susan Alexandra) from art school to a job at the Crosby store.

“Jill showed me what life could be,” Mur said. “she taught me so much just by creating her own work … [from] what's behind the work… [to], the idea of value… “

Each and every jewel is an artifact of artistic practice. On Crosby Street, Mur could hold a necklace and feel the pulsating energy to work and create. The store was a place to remember Jill’s lessons about the value of craft, vision, elbow grease. Or about how to really make things happen alongside creatives young and old, a lifelong ecosystem of friends and mentors.
